Talk to Tiger!

Welcome to the Gab page, where you can write to Tiger and perhaps hear back from him. You need to provide your email address for this. Make sure it's okay with your parent, guardian, or otherwise bossy grownup in your life.

From time to time, Tiger will pose a question or two for you to ponder and, hopefully, respond to. This is what Tiger calls "research." For example:

If the bossy grownup in your life wouldn't let you have your dream pet, what would be the worst replacement pet imaginable that he or she would likely buy to stop your whining?

From Savannah:

Hello!
My name is Savannah. I have just finished reading your book We Can’t All Be Rattlesnakes and it is probably my favorite book of all time. My favorite animal is snakes so, I thought this book was outstanding. Crusher is way cool and so was Rex(too bad he died). I was thinking you could write a sequel showing how life was for Kong or maybe even Speedy. Please reply, I would love hearing back from you.
Yours Truly,
Savannah

PS:I also love to write. Maybe you could give me a few tips on how you do your marvelous work?

Jun 08, 11:24

Hi Savannah!

Thanks for writing to me.

I’m so proud that you liked Rattlesnakes so much.

I like your idea of a sequel. I’ll think it over. Right now I’m working on a book about a tiger.

Tips? Well, keep doing what you’re doing: reading. Books are your best writing teachers. And always be sure you know what your main characters wants. You will stop her from getting it, of course, at least initially, but you will also help her come up with strategies for achieving it.

Crusher wanted freedom.

Take care and keep reading and have a terrific summer!

yoursss,
Patrick

From Andrea Malquist:

Hello :) My name is Andrea Malquist. I read Faith and the Rocket Cat in 1998 for the first time, before Faith and the Electric Dogs (I know, I should have read the sequel second. Maybe it wasn’t available at the Borders I visited then…). I loved Faith and found myself relating to her quite a bit. I myself am a “mutt” of Mexican and various types of European ancestry and I also struggle with Spanish. I remember even making a small paper version of the Peahen as illustrated on the cover to hang from my ceiling! Anyway, it was then and still remains one of my favorite books at the age of 20. I thought you should know!

May 19, 13:55

Hi Andrea,

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a sweet letter. I’m proud that my story affected you enough to recall it fondly twelve years later (!) and honored that you made a model of the Peahen.

You made my day!

muchas gracias,
Pato

From kylie convery:

hello!my name is kylie.you went to our school for young Author’s day!im almost done with your book,GUINEA DOG.i have an idea for a story.you say that you like beasts,so why not make a greek mytholgy book.there are all sorts of beasts in there

May 18, 20:16

Hi Kylie,

Funny you should mention Greek mythology, because I’m involved in a project—a book—that features many Greek mythical characters. Twelve different authors are each writing a chapter. Mine is Chapter 9. It begins with Hades’s riderless chariot and features appearances by Diana, Hephaestus, Eros, Apollo, and Daphne (the story’s main character). It will come out in the fall of 2011, and is called “Twelve.”

Let me know how Guinea Dog shakes out for you. I hope you like the rest of it.

May 17, 22:20

Hi Wendy.

Oh, I’m fond of all sorts of animals. Most, really. I’m not actually fond of mosquitoes, but I admire their gall.

I have two cats, though not the same as pictured on the website. I still have Soobie, who is thirteen, and who inspired Guinea Dog when she was a kitten who acted like a puppy. I dedicated the book to her. When I showed her the dedication in the signed copy I gave her, she licked herself. I won’t say where. I’m not sure what she meant by that, but I do know she hasn’t read the book yet.

My other cat, Lila, is actually my daughter’s cat. She’s quite affectionate. Right now she has her tail in my face.

From jillian:

hi i am form eastgate and i have a question …….. how did u become a famous aouthor?????!!!!!????!?!!?!?!

May 11, 13:01

Hi Jillian,

Thanks for writing!

How did I become famous? I suppose it was all the fame. Fame follows me everywhere. Even into the kitchen. When you have that much fame, you become famous. It can’t be helped.

How much fame do you have?

Keep writing and reading—-especially my books.

your pal,
Pato

From Cole and Lanie Rice:

my sis and I loved your book Guinea Dog. You should write a series about it. I plan on getting your We Can’t All Be Rattlesnaks book too.

My dream pet would be a chinchilla. The WORST replacement pet my mom would probably buy would be a turtle. We had one and it smelled but mom liked it. All you could do was watch it because turtles have samineelo.

From Rob Dudko:

Dear Mr. Jennings:

My name is Rob Dudko, a fifth grade teacher at Brownstone Intermediate School in Portland, Connecticut. That’s the working class Portland, as opposed to the Wall Street sector of our little state in the southwest corner. Our fifth grade team (and students) have been such a fan of “Faith and the Electric Dogs” that we have made it our only “core”(required reading)book, and continue to buy them by the dozen from the remnants at Scholastic. Why that wonderful title still isn’t in print reflects the sad state of our publishing companies. But, I’ve written to ask you about a possible author’s visit to our 72-year-old school. The staff and children would love to have you. As far as I can see, you live in the artist enclave of Bisbee, a long way from here. But we’d love to hear from you and attempt a visit. Drop us a line when you can.

Sincerely yours,

Rob Dudko
